2016 ED 451 with 13,000 miles, that when backing out of the garage, just quit. Dash light came on and said "Drive System, Engine Off". Just drove it one day prior with 60% remaining. Won't accept a charge, says "Malfunction", when trying. I know sitting for long, it will be totally dead. Any clues as to what I might do to get the car back up and running? The 12 volt battery is showing 12.4 volts.

451 Smart Fortwo is incapable of doing a BMS software update by GPS.
Such updates require a hardwire connection to proprietary Daimler link.
USB download was NEVER an option.

That only 5 days ago you left "dead ED" with the dealer and got it back today is awesome and highly irregular! Replacement HV batteries seem to be made of unobtainium and such parts must be hauled by ground yet yours was sourced and replaced in less than a week!
