What Smart Car do I have???

All I know is that it is a 2008 Smart ForTwo. I am confused by the word Passion and 451. Is there a VIN decoder that would help me identify the vehicle? I need to get some parts for the car, and can't answer questions that parts dealers ask about which Smartcar I have.

That said, then there is the challenge of actually finding the parts...

The car started smoking like crazy. I have been able to determine that the PCV valve has failed. So I need the correct PCV valve and the cover plate that it seats into, to fix the problem. Also, could use the extended engine bolts tool used to lift the body high enough off the engine so I can get access to the PCV valve components.

Any suggestions would be appreciated... I live in Stuart Florida...

Hello and welcome!

"451" is your car's chassis code. The Fortwo has had three generations and thus, three chassis codes.

450 (first generation): 1998 - 2007
451: 2007 - 2014
453: 2014 -

Here in America the years run slightly different. The 451 ran from 2008 to 2015 for gasoline-powered cars and to 2016 for electric.

The 453 got a short run in America from 2016 to 2017 for gasoline and until 2019 for electric.

And sadly, we never officially got cars older than 2008.

"Passion" is your car's trim level.

For a 2008, there was Pure (base model), Passion, and Passion Cabriolet (convertible).

When getting parts from a dealership you should only need the year and maybe trim level depending on the part. The engine and drivetrain parts are the same regardless of the trim level.

The chassis code can help when you're getting parts from a place like eBay. It's also some nice nerdy stuff to know. :)

Billscarver. PM Jo e Lefors, where he got his engine lowering pin bolts. You could just remove one of yours, take it up to a Hardware store, match the tread and strength. Purchase 4 longer version of those bolts. A 2008 smart car, is a 451.

You can buy smart car replacement parts from.

Jo e Lefors has the factory bolt stock number. He got them from Germany.
