They need to concentrate on building more Pure's and stripped Passion's though. When I was looking for mine 6 months ago, they were hard to find, but there were gobs of cabrios available.
Presumedly the smart build mix mirrors their retail sales mix?

If not and they are building an inventory that is loaded toward the high end they may be trying to move their margins up by forcing the public to buy up?

Hopefully smart/DVI has ceased trying to chase that entry level price of $12,490.00 as a Pure without air conditioning is a dead smart walking . . .

Seems like they've regressed; for awhile (after the initial 2008 orders) the A/C box was pre-checked when you built your smart Pure. Just went to smart USA to make sure it was the same - it isn't. Unless the buyer checks the A/C box, it isn't included. Since the car would have to be ordered through a dealer hopefully the "no A/C" would be caught before the order was submitted. :)

10,009 total smart sold in 2012!

And the third strongest sales year since The Captain (PAG) began this insanity.

Congratulations to the men and women of DVI for building the bridge that has kept the smart brand alive in the U.S. :spots:

With this huge reversal in sales trend and the next gen smart on the horizon, perhaps some MB Franchisees will reconsider adding a smart Center?

Including the 330 car2go-smarts for Seattle? All in all 1,020 smarts were sold to car2go in 2012. ;-)
Yes, likely including ALL 2012 smart sales to car2go in the US. This thread reports monthly and total US sales numbers.

In your own words, "1,012 smarts were sold" albeit between the parent company Daimler GB and their subsidiary car2go were SALES (GAAP) as the vehicles were no longer in the Daimler AG/smartUSA new car inventory.

This has been a common practice not unlike General Motors owning Hertz which was later owned by Ford.

It was a good sales year. I'm really glad to see they met their goal. I have to be honest, as a niche vehicle, I really can't see smart sales in the US going much over 15K per year. There just isn't the demand here. Americans still like their big cars with back seats, even though they don't use them 90% of the time. Besides, smartville can't supply much more than that. At 15K vehicles, the US would be 10% of total capacity, and smart is sold in over 130 countries. Do the math, I think smart is very happy with sales in the US this year. Given that smartville has been turning out about 110K cars a year, we are already taking 10% of their capacity. I know there was a post elsewhere that they can't put two US cars in line at the plant due to extra pieces we get.

That was most excellent compared to the miserable 34 units they managed to blow out the door in Canada.
