Hello All,

Would like for anyone with creative talents to post how one might mount a surf fishing rod or two to the smart car. I was thinking about adding a rear bumper offered by a vendor on this site....and then configuring whatever would work. However I think a front mount might be a better choice. Any Ideas..please?

I'm wondering if there are any fishermen out there who might have some creative ideas on how to mount some poles on a smart Passion.

Many thanks for any and all suggestions.......

Mendo..
Have you used that soft rack on the smart? Does it work re laying on the top/roof of the smart without causing damage?

I guess if you left it up there for a long time some dirt would get under the pad and scratch the roof.

also, make sure that it is tight enough so that it doesn't move around or the wind vibrates it.

I consider this a quick easy temporary solution, just tossed it out there for ya.

If you add on the front single-bar rail, you can then mount some vertical PVC pipes to that, and put your rods in (not much different than most vehicles in that regard). Alternately, get the extension bolts for the tow hooks, and use that to mount a 2x4, which would be much easier to attach the pole tubes to.

I have brought my fishing poles to San Diego for a Long Range Fishing Trip. I had 8 Poles with me, the longest being a 9ft Jig Stick. I didn't bother to strap them up top because if you lose of those, the whole thing goes, and I am not losing those (they are almost as expensive as the Smart Car itself).

Here is what I did:

Got the bigger size tubing (PVC - 8 Inch diameter) and placed all my longer rods in it or buy the rod cases made by the big companies. With the passenger seat down you can ride it out the back and tie down the hatch to the baby fastener on the floor in the back.

Believe or not a 7 foot stick will fit in the Smart Car with the front seat down and the rod going diagonally across the cabin. It will be bent a little, but nothing crazy.
