I just got my 60000 mile maintenance done (less then 500 miles) and now I am getting the p0410 error. first is it safe to drive the car with this alarm? second is this related to this maintenance? the dealership I had this done at is 3 hours away. Can I check or do anything? noobish with automotive things.

thanks for any assist,

...on your first start of the day pay attention and listen to hear the air pump kick in for about 10-30 seconds...
...second the motion by silverbrabus on connecting plug ckeck...
...if you know somebody with a scan tool that can clear the code DO IT...it may not come back...I've seen that code come on on a very hot engine....

T 12121. Sure hope you are training a local shop to service your Smart , as we will be moving down there next year (Adrian area ) and Bloomfield is a Long haul. LOL.

Smartie will have his own garage, with a real "Lectric" Door and we will still be on the river, just a different one :D

Hope that hose fixes your problem. Please keep us posted. A2Jack

Have P0410 error and a few times cleared.
At this time decide to use a Carb/Chock cleaner and compressed air to clear the valve in all directions. Clear light, will drive 50miles, will report.

An "B" option - buy new valve and replace. Any suggestions on reasonable cheap source?

Thanks !
Happy Driving.

I actually had the service done at SCI (smart center indianapolis) (was in area visiting family.) Actually it was the mercedes-benz dealership next to them (same thing I guess.) I just had them do the 60k service. Really didn't say much about the service. Had to have them repair/replace a bleeder screw. Other then that much $$$$ later it was done. I guess the hose could have just been loosely been put on and fell off, but I doubt it. I will try to remember to take a pic of the hose.

Computer codes for a particular problem are not always for What they indicate.
The hose being disconnected and not giving the "valve" what it needed to "see" is a good example. Sloppy techs working for flat rate paychecks (dealers choice) can run up bills and dealers profits like you would not believe.

Basic mechanical and diagnostic skills are still required in this computerized age.

Another update for this particular problem.
I drive about 400 miles since last report, and suddenly Engine check light is ON.
I check and see same P0410 error
So, I decide to do same - clean valve with carb cleaner, compress air back and forth in all openings, plus clean/lubricate with light oil and blow with compressed air all excessive oil.

In addition, I install a home-made filter from open cell packaging foam and a wire wrap on the valve open orifice. Why?
I notice, when I driven SMART on the dusty road I always have a same problem with valve - WOW! It is not surprise , if you start to think about. Rear wheels is a dust blowers in to engine compartment , so the valve has a direct access to that dust.

It is it for now. Will drive another couple hundred miles and give another report.

Happy Driving !
