Hi all! My name's Matt. I am a new vendor.
I am the owner Boesch Built, home of Genius Smart Car Parts- a grass roots parts manufacturer for the smart car enthusiast www.geniusparts.com. We are a developing company focused on quality and innovation. I look forward to hearing any and all ideas for new products as well as feedback on existing ones.
Recently, I have been working on five new products. Three of these products are completed, tested and ready to ship! The first is a cold air intake, the second is a billet aluminum arm rest (pictures are the prototype, I will have pictures of the production version tomorrow!) and the third is an aluminum emblem. (why just be Smart when you can be Genius?) Please check out my website for more information!

Hi Dune runner, The air intake snakes around to the front of the motor and down a little bit, the filter ends up being in between the firewall and the transmission. The reason I did this is that it seemed to make a lot more sense to have the inlet in front of the motor instead of in back or on top where it can absorb a lot of heat. The filter ends up sitting 14 inches off the ground so for it to suck any real amount of water you would have to drive through a puddle that is at least 2 inches past your door bottoms ( I measured it!) I tested the car on a dynojet chassis dyno (www.nelsonsperformance.com check it out sometime, we just finished his 1000 hp mustang!) I ran three tests, the stock, a competitors, and mine. Immediately after the rollers stopped spinning I hit the air filter with a hand held temperature gun. Mine was at 98 degrees and theres was 115 degrees. All of the results are posted on my website. I think this testing is fairly real world, imagine driving hard then sitting at a stop light for a minute, when you take back off the filter is probably gonna be pretty heat soaked just like on the dyno. I'm not really sure how to measure the temps going down the road without buying some kind of test equipment plus I already sold the competitors that I used for testing! I hope that this testing method is satisfactory.

The armrest will be ready to ship as soon as tomorrow. I pick up the first black leather top from the upholster at noon. The price is $285.00, I know it is kind of expensive but you have really gotta see it in person to realize that it's worth every penny. I should have the website updated with a place for you to purchase it by about 5 PM.

Hi guys, I'm not sure what is up with the website. Thanks for posting that dyno result! I designed the website and I by no means am experienced in this sort of thing, it seems to work good on most computers but not so well on others. Someone is lined up to do a more professional site, but it probably won't be until after the first of the year. Good news is I have got armrests basically ready to ship. Price is $285.00 plus $15.00 shipping. Here is some pictures

Matt, I'm using Firefox on Linux and like everyone else, I couldn't navigate anywhere using your homepage.

I got in by guessing the Boesch Built - About Us! link. I clicked on the photos and then found a separate Genius parts for a Smart car link and just kept navigating from there.

I know your site is still under construction, but until you can get the static pages fixed, maybe our members can get a glimpse by going to these links:

Great stuff!

Good luck and thanks!

Hi Matt!

May I add some constructive criticism about your armrest. Actually not even criticism since I think it is great from the get go. How about the option of a black powdercoating? (semi-flat perhaps?) The aluminum may be a little too much for some of the blander souls out there that own Smarts.

Either way, I think it is great and it looks great. Still a little pricey for me, but I live in a trailer so I can say stuff like that. :)

I see your point, but from the pic on his website, the aluminum billet looks pretty consistent with the gray door handles and other gray trim pieces:

I'm liking it a lot. Instead of all circular cutouts, how about making the largest cutout in the shape of the smart logo?

Hi guys,
Thanks for all of the feedback!!!! First thing, I am taking an armrest to the Powder Coater today to have it done in semi-gloss black, I will post some pictures when it's done. The finish on them right know isn't really bling-bling but more of an industrial finish. When I get these from the water-jet cutter the holes have a bead blasted look, from there I belt sand the sides with very fine sandpaper with the grain to give them a nice brushed finish, It is a very nice contrast.
As for the intake, I was hesitant to offer an intake system knowing I was diving head first into the great intake debate! The testing I have done is both fair and accurate, It would be very difficult to test these actually driving down the road, however, My test very closely simulates what it would be like to take off from a stoplight.
The Smart crowd seems to be a pretty intelligent bunch and I don't think it will take a lot of convincing that taking in air from the front of the engine is a really good idea.
I realize that I haven't had a proper introduction. My Name is Matt Boesch, I am 31 years old. I have an associates degree in high performance automotive technology from the University of Northwestern Ohio. From there I worked tech support for the Midwest Representatives of company's such as Edelbrock, Autometer, and K&N air filters. I built street rods for awhile at Motor City Steel and TWC motor sports, worked at the GM proving grounds, built prototypes for various companies, and was also the head fabricator for the 51 Nextel Cup race team until I became car chief.
Thanks again for all of the comments! Matt

Hi again everybody, Here is some pictures of the armrest in simi-gloss black powder coat. It turned out really good, the consensus around the shop is that it's even better looking than the billet. This particular one is going to Cube. If any of you would like one of these just let me know. I can do black for the same price as the billet but if you want a different color there might be a small up charge. I started a new thread in the vendor market place to promote these things. Again, THANK YOU for all of the feedback!! Matt

It looks like the height is adjustable by the multiple mounting holes on the base plate where it installs on the seatback. Is this correct? Is the angle of the armrest itself also adjustable?

By the way, that powder-coated version also looks hot.
