No. I ended up having to replace it a few days later. Thankfully it is an affordable part that can actually purchased from your local Mercedes dealer.

My engine light's been on for two years

I have a 2008 Fortwo passion. The Beverly Hills dealer looked at it and said (after about an hour of diagnostic tests) it was an air-intake pipe that had to be replaced. $800 part plus labor. Mechanic said it was no emergency and nothing else wrong with the car. My independent mechanic (great guy -- Benny's Independent Mercedes in North Hollywood) took a look, called Mercedes to discuss, and said they were not even sure the air pipe would solve the problem.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

My gas gave out on the freeway yesterday. Car was still on but not getting any fuel. I took it to Autozone and they pulled P2121 and P2138 - can anyone find out what these codes mean or what may be the trouble?

Found the codes on another thread so nevermind :D - Guess I have a faulty gas pedal.

The Beverly Hills Merc dealer is overpriced and clueless. I stopped taking my Smart there after they charged me $135 to reset the airbag warning light. They claimed that my professionally installed aftermarket stereo speakers "may" be too close to the side impact sensor (even though the speakers use the original door holes and the sensor is actually inside the Tridion cell, i.e. nowhere near the speakers). The speakers were installed 2.5 years earlier and never caused a problem. After the reset, there is again no problem. BHMB insisted on their $135, though, because the work "isn't covered by warranty."

The takeaway from this little rant is that they (a) didn't bother to investigate further than it took to get themselves off the warranty hook, and (b) were perfectly happy to send me off in a car with a potentially malfunctioning airbag system.

Anyway, an air intake pipe should cost no more than $70-100 and about an hour of labor. But again, treat BHMB's diagnosis with a healthy dose of skepticism.

P2121 is accelerator pedal position & 2138 is throttle position sensor voltage. I would try erasing the codes & see what happens. If they reset, get thee to a smart Center Service Dept. You can google the OBD codes and learn what they are yourself & to get more info.

Google shows P2121 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch “D” Circuit and P2138 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "D"/"E" Voltage Correlation. :)
Having my local dealer pick it up on Friday because my wife is not confident in my mechanical skills. That plus the wheel bearing replacement will likely be $800 =[

As an ex-mechanic, there is some value of having a competent shop work on your car. I have been through dozens of shops that did not have a clue what they were doing. The last was a local Goodyear shop that told me they couldn't put new tires on the front of my wife's Tempo because the front wheel bearing was loose... all they had to do was tighten the axle nut and it would have been fine (I showed them how to replace the axle nut that kept working loose) and helped direct them to change the ^@#$% tires. The owner asked me if I wanted a job... He didn't even give me a discount. ( I should mention they had the car for 5 hours and didn't even bother to call me with the problem) That was 7 years ago and I have not been back.

P2422

Whats does a P2422 Mean have it come on after I drive about 250 on a tank

Make sure you find out and post what code you had and what fix the problem. Thanks, I've had P0451 and P2422 every time I fill my tank.
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The vapor pressure sensor, VSV for canister closed valve (CCV) and VSV for pressure switching valve are used to detect abnormalities in the evaporative emission control system. The ECM decides whether there is an abnormality in the evaporative emission control system based on the vapor pressure sensor signal.
DTC P0450 or P0451 is recorded by the ECM when the vapor pressure sensor malfunction.

P2422 p0451

Hi,

I have recently been getting the Evaporative Emission System engine warning codes. Have you you you found out what you problem was? I would greatly appreciate knowing your fix.

It is possible you have been over filling the tank. Adding fuel until it runs out the filler neck can flood the vapor canister and cause that error. If it comes on even after resetting, the canister could be soaked and need to be replaced.

A dealer item I am afraid...

Check engine light code : P2440 - secondary air injection system switch valve stuck open bank 1.
got that. I've been all over the forum, seen many posts on this. I see that it runs between $35 & $45 and is an easy fix. Even seen references to its location & followed the links; can't see the pictures.. Where IS this thing located??
09 smart, 123K on the odometer. Replaced the cooling fan with one from OReilly's following procedures found here. Had to have the air conditioning done - hole in condenser from a screw that had come loose ... Other than that I've had no problems whatsoever. Never had it to the Mercedes shop. Light came on today.. Where is it Located? Where can I buy one (if other than Mercedes)?

Scangauge tells me that I have two codes, but only can see one of them - P0000. Happened as soon as I started the car. Used the scanguage, cleared the codes. Resarted, CEL on. The car ran a bit roughly, but got me home. (I was only 2 miles away, via city streets.) Called Smart Center San Francisco, they received the car shortly before closing time the day before Thanksgiving via AAA flatbed tow. Called today (Black Friday), they haven't determined what the problem is (translation: they probably haven't gotten the car in the garage yet). Hoping it's something small. I came down with something called Cervical Dystonia (my neck muscles are getting info to contract but not to relax - making my head turn to the left - wonder what the code is for THAT?), so the car hasn't been driven much since April. It's an '09 with just over 32,000 miles. It missed it's annual checkup last May because of my condition. Guess I'll hear early this coming week what the good/bad news is.

I've never over filled the tank, always use "top tier" premium gas and the gas cap is on nice & tight.

A couple of posts about a blown fuse causing the P0000, and some posts about interference from radio towers. I'd go with the fuse. As long as it is at the dealer, have them put in the latest software for the computers.

Thanks, Jim - great advice! I read the post about the fuse tonight. There aren't any radio towers nearby. The car had the transmission update in 2010 (if I recall correctly). Have there been updates since then? I know the dealer will tell me, but just thought I'd ask. I'm thinking about buying a new tailgate and back center panel to fix where some dummy pulled his car into mine while parking in front of my house. And it would be tempting to have the pano roof replaced - even though it would be happening all over again before long, since it still won't have a spot in our garage.

All I've heard from Smart Center San Francisco is that cylinder #2 and #3 are mis-firing, they're still checking. None of this sounds good to me.
