Welcome to SCoA! If it's a single wrench it should also show a number next to it when the car is first turned on - that's the number of days overdue for service. At a minimum the smart gets an oil and filter change every 10K miles or annually.
Service requirements are here: https://www.smartusa.com/service-and-maintenance

PS - good to see another Ohio owner here; hope you can join us for this year's April Fools rally. :)

What up Y'll ? Thx info there... Can you you assist us as well? My Pop bought a used Smart a few years back with 11k, and your right... within a 100 miles of owning it the (1)one wrench was up... so like a good little dummy I said "no worry Pops I'll read the manual n we'll figure it out." so what ever I read led me to the Mercedes dealr in SD and an expensive oil change later everything is grt till now when I see the wrench display again and so I refresh with the manual and now I remember there's (2)two wrenches over a single (as you most likely have seen) and I am left wondering if Y'll could clue us in as to figuring out if we need Service or just to Learn how to clear maintenance and wrench warning lights. oh yeah the maintenance light is on too...
Car is running just fine No noticeable problems. Thank you for being here.

If the odometer returns after a bit, it is a maintenance reminder. If the engine symbol is lit, you have another problem. The engine light (looks like an engine) is lit, there should be a stored code that can help tell what is wrong. You will need an OBDII code reader to get the code.Once you have that, you can look up what the error is.

There are codes specific to smart, and not all codes can be read by a generic reader Most auto parts stores will read the code for you, but won't reset the code. Once you have the code, we can help translate it to find the problem. Could be as simple as a loose gas cap.

I can never get this to work. I tried for days on end, disconnected the battery, waited for days in between. Tried a pro scanner and it could not reset the service indicator. Tried three different ways as found on the internet. Noting worked. Took it to Smart Madness and he reset it in 5 seconds first try, I guess it takes a magic touch. Picked up a second Smart brabus and its -48000 miles past service according to the indicator. I tried again and was only able to get it to blink. No luck resetting. Guess will have to take a trip back to Smart Madness.

And sometimes it don't take at all. Tried to reset mine for months, and no go. Others have tried - Nothing. I just ignore it now.

I've had the same issue. I've tried every variation found online. I have one solid wrench and one blinking one the entire time the car is running. No oil lights or anything. I dont understand why they won't go away. I have tried doing exactly what is done in every video I can find and even done it faster than the videos but no results. Hooked a code reader up, its not throwing any codes or anything
