Hi,
I live in the Northeast and my wife has a 2008 Smart Fortwo Passion Cabriolet, gasoline. For the most part she just drives it weekdays to and from the train station, 7 minutes each way.
During the first bitter cold spell in January, after a weekend of being dormant, it failed to start on a 6 degree Monday morning. She got a ride from a neighbor and I jumped it when I got home and drove it around about 10 - 15 minutes. It started the next morning and I immediately took it to Autozone where they tested the battery for free and they told me it seemed fine and had a full charge. It's been fine, even on some very cold days since.
Now it is a month later, and after having off on a Friday and Monday, it again failed to start on a 12 degree Tuesday morning, following 4 days that never went above freezing.
Should I buy a new battery? Or is this simply a function of dormancy + cold that I would have again anyway?
Appreciate any advice.
