I've noticed in my pure (with has absolutely no bells or whistles) that there seems to be a couple of spots under the visors where an alan wrench may fit. Is this for if I decide I want to change to panoramic roof, or can I make my coupe into a cabriolet in just a few short turns of the screw?

We've had power steering on our loaner from Sarasota for the last week and a half... I'm soooooo glad we don't have it on our car.... major understeer. Now I know what everyone has been talking about.

(IMO) Power steering in a car this light is a waste of money. You have a better feel for the road, and the wheel is easily turned.

I have the panoramic roof, and I can feel the heat radiating through it on sunny days. It just gets hotter inside, requiring more AC. Wish I didn't have it.

Besides the lower cost the solid opaque roof that comes only on the pure sold me on that model. I might have gone with a passion if it had the same roof as the pure. Also prefer no power steering which adds more weight, uses power and comes directly between me and the wheels.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the discussion is the prospect that the Pure is more ready for installation of a true sunroof. I have a 2008 Passion with panoramic roof and I like it. I would have preferred a true sun roof that opened (but wasn't willing to go the cabrio route and sacrifice storage space). If smart had offered the Pure with panoramic roof and Pure with true sun roof, and cabrio as the "full monty" I think it would have been a little better model mix (since we were all ordering our cars at the beginning, they could have offered the solid/panoramic option on Pure and made the sun roof standard on Passions).

there is a reason they don't show the outside with the roof open. It looks like someone left it sitting on top and I wouldn't want that on my car. My Land Rover has that , but it doesn't work. Doubt if I will ever fix it.

I must have a strange Pure, I got it used, and it came with a Panoramic Roof, and Power Steering, and the fancy radio that I never use. Everything else in the car is Pure.

I like the Panoramic Roof, in the summer it's no worse then having an all black or dark colored car, AC is a must.

Power Steering, I don't know the difference between powered and non powered, but I'm happy.

I'm thinking Smart didn't want to diminish the appeal of the Cabrio by offering any other open roof option. It has to be a marketing thing.

I'm very happy with my odd Pure. Hay, does anybody else have the pulse drive, it's not helping my MPG thing at all. :|

You could get a Pure with enough options to make it into a Passion, but it would cost more than a Passion. There was a special version that had power windows too. As I recall, the solid roof was not available on the Passion, only on the Pure.

Rip the pure roof off!

I bought it in '08 & it now looks like it has tho world's worst case of eczema! No dealer knows how to fix it, it has to be replaced with a new roof. No adhesive is truely permanant. I will get it off one way or another whether the car likes it or not. My question is has anyone done it yet? Or will I be the only one on the planet to fully document how to scalp a pure!

You might try using a windshield removal tool such as this:

https://www.amazon.com/Tool-Aid-87900-Windshield-Removal/dp/B0002SRDR8

Here is a link to a replacement roof:

fortwo Passion Pure 2008-2014 OEM Roof Panel - Autobahn Used SMART 451 Parts

Or, you can order a new roof here (expensive):

http://www.mbpartsexpress.com/auto-...008/smart/fortwo/pure-trim/1-0l-l3-gas-engine/body-cat/roof-and-components-scat

You would also need a proper roof adhesive for the smart [the link above for the new roof also lists the adhesive kit]
